Hello;
My 2006 R21EC has a Yanmar YM30. I noticed that I had lost the propeller zinc last time out; boat is on the trailer except when being used. I understand that losing a prop zinc is not unusual; perhaps more loctite next time...

While inspecting the prop, which is in good shape, I noticed there was about 1/32" of lash. That is, the prop can be rotated about that much by hand, before the driveshaft engages. Is this normal or do I need to tighten the prop nut or pull the prop and inspect the keyway? The cotter key is in place and the prop nut appears to be tight and the cutless bearing seems fine. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Dave.

1/32" doesn't seem like much but IMO there should be zero movement. I would pull the prop and check the key, and keyways on the prop and shaft. Something is worn. Others may comment but while I had the Prop off I would put some "blueing" (I think that what it's called) on the shaft, slide your prop back on without the key and spin it on the shaft. This would tell you what kind of contact you are getting between the prop and shaft.
