I added a Prop Shaft brush, a Transom Plate Zinc and Donut zincs on the lower swim step braces. I captured photos of this which can be seen here... http://www.tugnuts.com/gallery2.php?g2_itemId=40198.

Notes.

1) Both the shaft brush and transom plate zinc were bonded to the engine block.

2) The swim step braces are not bonded to anything (just bolted through the transom)... but regardless I placed donut zinc as far down as possible and with the boat at rest they submerge to about 75% of their area. If some extra time/effort is taken the swim step brace transom bolts can be bonded to the rudder's bond strap.

3) More info for the shaft brush installation can be found at

Thanks for posting your photos Barry. I've been thinking of mounting a transom plate so it's good to know where you placed yours. What gauge wire was used for the grounding?

Jim

Jim: I used 8 gauge wire (the green one in the photos).

BTW... Since installing this transom zinc plate it has not eroded much.... and this makes me think it was not a very useful addition. If I were to give advice on this modification I would indicate it's is not worth doing.

Question: Why not connect the shaft ground directly to the engine? Second question: Do you keep your boat in a "hot" marina, I have heard that over zincing a boat is just a bad as under zincing. What is the rule of thumb?
