I just received some zincs from the factory and when I went to install the prop zinc, the screw that had held the old one on was gone.

Does anyone know the screw type (keep it PG, please) and size for the prop zinc? I'll have to pick one up at West Marine on my next trip to the boat and it would be handy to know what I need.... 2017 Ranger 31 CB, Volvo 300hp.

Thanks,
Bobby

This question was asked recently for a 1 1/4 shaft. I believe the Ranger 31 with D4 has a 1 1/2 shaft using a F anode. Based on the specifications for the F anode the screw thread size is a 5/16" 18 thread SS using a 1/4" Allen wrench to install. I (knock on wood) have never had the anode or screw fall off. I usually confirm the proper length when installing, comparing to the screw I removed the correct length for the way I install the anode. The screw normally comes with the anode. Depending on where I purchase the anode the lengths have varied. I don't purchase from Ranger because they only supply zinc anodes. I prefer Aluminum because I trailer the boat. Aluminum is effective in fresh ,brackish and Salt waters. Zinc Salt only.

Thanks, Brian!

As usual, you are an excellent resource.

Try Boatzincs.com for aluminum anodes. They also sell the screw for the "F" anode for the prop shaft. I highly recommend using some blue lock tight when installing. My R31 prop anode would not stay on without it especially if we cruised at 2900-3100 rpm for extended periods.

I’ll add one recommendation to Brian Brown’s hardware list for your prop anode: An external tooth lock washer to place under the head of the hex bolt. That may help keep the bolt from backing out. The prop anodes I order from boatzincs.com come with one. It is stored loose under the sticker over the bolt hole and is easy to miss if it drops out while removing the sticker.

I also add a collar zinc on the shaft in front of the prop.
