I have a 2022 Cutwater 30. At 5 am this morning my propane alarm started beeping. No smell of propane. We had used the oven 12 hours earlier but shut down the system after use. Have never had a problem with the stove and never had an alarm before. It would reset but 30 seconds later start beeping again. After a few resets it stopped resetting so I had to pull the fuse to stop it. I know the problem could well be the sensor in the bottom of the stove cabinet and it has to be replaced, but before I do this is there anything else I might try? I disconnected and reconnected the tank and no change. When I reinsert the fuse the sensor shows green but a short time later it goes red and starts beeping again. Any thoughts outside of replacing the sensor?

Lots of things will set them off. Hydrogen gas venting from batteries, exhaust from an engine, and I've heard various cleaners may set them off.

The simplest way to test them is to ventilate the sensor well, get access to it and ensure there's no gasses around. If it won't stop, it's probably a bad sensor. If it does stop, you can get a butane lighter (the kind that lets you vent the gas without actually lighting it). Vent some gas from the lighter (without lighting it) on the sensor to see if it works.

In the marine environment the manufacture states to expect 3-4 years out of the sensor. Though, I've seen them fail on newer boats (odds are, the sensor was sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for awhile).

Replacement is easy as it's a quick disconnect (designed that way). I've replaced one on a 2019 R27-OB.

The sensor is expensive though, unfortunately.

Mine got wet on my C30, I had a dehumidifier hose accidentally get aimed out of the center of the sink, and the water ran down into the cabinet under the oven. I couldn’t figure out what fried it at first, but it was an easy fix.

Martin’s previous comment about hydrogen gas setting off the alarm is an accurate one. I know this from first hand experience unfortunately…

We have a R27 Ranger Tug and gave up with the propane sensor. We pulled the Stove Fuse and haven't used the stove since last summer. I'd really like some details on the "easy fix".
