Good Afternoon:

I am concerned about the electronics in the cockpit lockers getting wet.

Has anyone installed some sort of "shield" to deflect water should the scuppers not keep up? Any ideas, especially pics, would be appreciated.

I am working on this problem as well. Believe me, I’m working on it. My port locker is great, keeps the water out. My starboard locker needs attention.

My starboard scupper was totally clogged.

I just stuffed a wet rag in the one drain hole and used the raw water wash down pump and hose/nozzle. Wrapped a wet rag around the nozzle and shoved it into the other scupper drain and hit it full blast with water. Blew all the hair back which then got trapped in the flapper. Reached down on the transom and pulled all the hair from the scupper flapper. It drains good now.

My port lazarette scupper works fine, no issues. Most of my electrical is in the port lazarette which withstood Johnstone Strait and remained dry. It was my starboard lazarette that was flooded with running water.

Got my solar charger replaced today and all it good. We are headed across the Dixon in the morning.

Hi Martin,

Glad to hear all is good now for solar power. Tough to get by without it and without moving every day. Enjoying following your trip! Say hi to Janet! Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for all the info!

I've had that issue on my C24-C, several times. To the point that the drain gutter that leads to the 2 drains overflowed into the bilge causing the bilge pump to run. The scupper flaps are made of a hard rubber material that serves as both the flex point and the seal. The flex point was no longer flexible enough to allow the leaves, pollen, seeds, what-have-you, to pass through.

Until I find a working solution to the scuppers, and perhaps even past then (PM List), I use this during the Spring and Fall when the trees throw things in my cockpit. The point on my tool was ground down and is mostly nonexistent, making a hole in the tubing is minimized. What Martin did is very similar to what I was looking to do (though I was going to pressurize a small vinyl hose with water as I snaked it down the drain tube).
