I posted this on the FB group but not sure how much crossover there is. So here goes…

Hello,

We are seriously considering a Ranger 31 CB for weekend overnight trips and the Great Loop next year. Had the opportunity to be on one today for several hours on an inland river in FL.

Love the boat but have some questions.

1. Are there any ways to reduce engine noise? Insulation, etc? We are used to 4-stroke outboards which are sort of quiet (relatively speaking).

2. How does this boat perform in moderate seas like heading to the Keys, crossing the Gulf Coast, and/or heading to the Bahamas. Today’s river trip didn’t really give us a feel for this.

3. If you have a dog, how does your pup handle the stairs going up to and down from the command bridge. We have a 30 lb dog traveling with us.

4. How do your store your bikes?

Thanks in advance,

Melanie

We're in a 29 classic. I'll try to provide the best answers I can.

We're on the great loop with a dog. We put the dog bed right where the engine hatch is, in front of the door. That cuts the engine noise down considerably, believe it or not. In my boat, there's space for more insulation than the factory added. I would think yes, but we have not tried to do anything permanent because it's not a significant problem for us.

Loves following seas; loves heading right into seas. Hates beam seas. Everything is better when you're moving fast too, if you can.

Can't help you there. Our older dog wouldn't be able to do it, maybe not even when she was younger. She does find her places she likes on board, usually away from the diesel noise, mostly in the v-berth. I would guess no unless your dog is very agile. Coverings help with traction and confidence. Our boat didn't come with sea-tech, but we put some in.

We put two folding bikes in the cave, and sometimes make short runs with them in the cockpit. We move them to the bow when the cave is occupied, when we have guests. Works great.

Maggie and I are happy to zoom with you if you ever need.

Thank you! We are still learning. This is very helpful.
