After 2 weeks into our Desolation Sound cruise I had an epiphany. Why am I paying extra at marinas for shore power? With our 340 watt solar panel and Victron Energy MPPT controller, I haven’t seen SOC numbers under 75% even though we are on the hook most days. So why shore power at marinas? All we ever do is use our 110 volt coffee pot to heat water. Sure a shore power connection keeps the hot water hot but we can heat all the water we need on our Wallace kerosene cooktop. Sorry marinas but we are no longer buying your shore power!
Still need my shore power cord when the boat is in the driveway during the off season and I’m running 4 110 volt dehumidifiers and automatic heaters in the cabin and engine compartment during the winter. But that’s it going forward.
