I've apparently put this in the wrong category: here 'goes again...
I've noticed that the compass on the R-21 should actually be raised off the counter top to be more accurate. Buried down where it is behind the wheel there is quite a bit of magnetic interference (deviation) - more than can be compensated for with the 2 screws in the Ritchie compass. I'm considering re-mounting the compass on an ABS plastic pipe union which seems to work as far as height, diameter and availability. I wondered if anyone else had played with the location of the compass on a R-21. (Yes I know I'm old and out-of-date still talking about this vintage vessel, but I love it and it continues to serve me well.) Regards
Denis

Hey Denis. As a recent seller of a R -21EC I understand your love for your boat. I never thought about raising the compass but really didn’t use it much for the reason you mentioned. It looks so cool up on the dash. If you can move it, preserve the coolness and get a more accurate reading go for it.
Cheers,
Karl
