R-21EC Volvo D1 engine extended warranty

Subject: R-21EC Volvo D1 engine extended warranty

Ranger Tugs tells me that Volvo offers an extended warranty for the D1 30HP diesel engine. Have other R-21EC owners purchased this warranty and what are the thoughts surrounding the usefulness of such a warranty ? Has anyone had to use the warranty and for what reason(s) ?

Ranger Tugs has been offering the Volvo D1 engine for the R-21EC since 2013 so more than likely anyone having purchased the warranty has had no need to use it.

I believe the warranty extends the new engine warranty to 3 or 5 years, but don't have the specific warranty T&Cs to know about this.

We bought a extended warranty for our Volvo D-3. A new D-3 they say is worth 30k. If I remember right the optional warranty extends the warranty to five years. We don't have hardly any hours to speak of yet on the engine so no need for any warranty services yet. I would think Ranger Tugs would have a lot of pull with Volvo as they buy many motors from Volvo. I'm sure Ranger would make anything right in any type of warranty situation Volvo or otherwise.

Something you may want to check on is if it is actually a Volvo-Penta extended warranty or a third party warranty. I believe I saw in one of the warranty books that the extended warranty is from a third party.

Regardless, we feel very fortunate because the five year extended warranty was included as a 'boat show incentive' along with several other cool toys.

Personally, I would go for the extended warranty - as we all know the price of marine parts and service 😱
