Recently bought a used r-23 that had been winterized, antifreeze in fresh water lines. Filled the fresh water tank, turned on pump, which worked fine but LOUD. Is this normal? Our last 2 boats had similar systems but never as noisy.

Well how loud zero to ten being the worst my is about a 6.5

I replaced my pump because it was noisy. gallery2.php?g2_itemId=73714.

A couple other things you should look at: 1) make sure your screens are clear in the pump and at the faucets. Remove them and clean them. 2) There are air gaps that appear to get into the system when the boat is winterized and de-winterized. I have found it helpful to fill the system, run the faucets (cold and hot, separately), then bleed the hot water tank air valve at the bottom. That seems to take care of the air in the system and reduces noise and pulsing.

I had the same issue. The pump maker recommended in their manual the following (going by memory):

1) fill tank.
2) turn off pump
3) open all faucets (hot and cold flowing)
4) turn on pump
5) let run for about 30 seconds, then close the faucets from furthest to nearest sinks.

This put my pump back to barely audible.
