Thinking of r23
Hi, new member here 🙂

I'm buying an R-23 which comes with factory-supplied aluminum double axle trailer... I need to move it about 200 miles to Anacortes and then ferry to San Juans... My vehicle is Caddillac Escalade with 6.2L V8 and tow package. The package includes controller with adjustable trailer breaks gain. It says it can tow 8000Lb on the label.

Does anyone has experience of towing R-23 with this kind of car? I believe Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon are the similar ones.
Or do I better rent Sierra 2500 or similar?

Thank you!

Several years ago, I rented a 1-Ton non-dually pickup from Del's Truck Rental near Bothel, WA. Enterprise Truck Rental had 1-Ton dully pickups available for a reasonable price. Only drawback was that they had to be returned to the same location.

My R-23 with trailer weighed in just under 9,000 pounds on the scale. I was towing it with my F150 that had a tow capacity of 7,500. I upgraded my towing capacity but for short tows, it worked. If you are moving it from Des Moines to Lopez, it is flat. Braking and sway control (watch for wind) are your main concerns. If you intend to tow more than once, time to spend more money.

I think you are not going to be in a safe situation trying to tow with your SUV.
Do what I did when we picked up our 12,800 pound gross weight on trailer C-28 and I owned a Tundra rated to tow 10,500 pounds
Rent a heavier truck! We went with Enterprise Truck Rental and used a Ford F350 for six days. Not cheap ($120/day) but safe. Lots of Enterprise Truck rental locations in OR and WA. A properly equipped F250 or Ram 2500 would probably work for your towing needs. I also used Penske truck rental about 8 years ago to pull a heavy cargo trailer cross country.

Thank you all who answered!

I finally decided to stay on safe side and rent a 3/4 ton truck. @hamster, I think your advice to spend more money is right, well, on the money 🙂
