My swim ladder when extended into water leans against the trim tab. I see on the newer R 23 they have made the Swim platform 3 inches longer so this does not happen. Wondering if anyone has ideas to deal with this. Boat is in water and I don't have trailer, any help appreciated, Jim

"leans against the trim tab" means leaning against the side of the tab, right ? Hmmmm, this is quite an oversight in the design. 😱

For time being suggest you avoid using the ladder until you get a solution from your dealer or from Ranger Tugs customer service. Remember, your boat is still under warranty and I suspect this issue can be considered a safety issue.

Thanks baz, Hope to hear from RT customer service.

Lower the trim tabs when swimming?

Tried that, still hits. Does yours ??

I'll never use it as I don't swim. So not an issue for me.

It's not just for swimmers.... it's also for safety. If you have a man-overboard situation you will most likely use that swim step as pulling a soaking wet person with clothes on is nigh impossible to get back onboard otherwise. 😉

I'm sure the drowning person won't care if the ladder is hitting the swim step or not!

The swim ladder on the original versions does rest against the tab when deployed and doesn't hurt anything. I don't consider this a safety issue but I also think it would be simple to address. I'm not sure I would worry about pulling it out of the water but maybe a plastic wedge where it folds out so it doesn't extend straight down? I would let Peter know and next time he is on one I'm confident he can come up with something easy that would be satisfactory.

Thank you,

While on the subject of swim ladder, some models have them stbd side on swim platform. I would assume most people would probably dock on at stbd side. In this car the ladder is between the dock and boat and practically useless. I would imagine it to be more useful facing backwards on stbd side of swim platform and still be visible to the captain when looking outside the window. Furthermore, if left down accidentally, it would most likely get damaged less.

Don't see the sideway facing ladder having advantages. Someone explain please

On the new 2018 R-27 the swim ladder is located on the aft edge on starboard side of the platform. 😱 It actually makes a lot of sense for several reason; one being that the platform rail to assist boating through the transom gate is on starboard edge side of the platform. Thus this rail is positioned correctly for both boarding and for swimmer to get onboard.

Thank you,

Thanks Andrew for responding. Glad to hear that it does not cause any harm to the trim tab. That was my concern, I will however discourage my large sister in law from jumping into the water, Jim
