My wife wants to add a small freezer to our R25. Has anyone else out there done this? If so, did you have it installed or use a stand-alone, what brand, etc. Most of all, how has it worked for you. I would rather install one, if possible.

Thanks,

Doug

At the Seattle Boat Show we looked at the NovaKooler portable freezer and ended up buying one. I don't have it yet but will pick it up tonight. Dave and Maureen Baker have one on the Karma and I think they are very happy with it. If you are interested you might call Ranger and they can tell you where to buy one, I will let you know how ours works. It plugs into the cigarette (uppp, 12 volt) lighter and is 45 quart they have larger and smaller. We plan on putting it in the lower quarters (the basement) as have the Karma.

We are very happy with our freezer. We have it in the basement plugged into the 12 volt outlet. It maintains at 15 below zero so you can even store ice cream!

Like Bob and Nita, we have the Nova Kooler.

David,
Do you know the power draw on your freezer?

Will are arriving in Monroe today,

It just happens I have the operating instructions for the freezer in front of me. According to it the BCD-45 (45 liter size) at 12V draws 4.2 amps +10% power consumption is 50 walt +15%. I find these numbers to be very good.

Stu... if you and Bridget are traveling on Hwy 2, stop in Leavenworth and we'll buy you a quick Starbucks.

Thanks everyone! I'll definitely look into the NovaKooler. My only other option was to build one using a conversion kit.

I believe the Nova Kooler has a 50% duty cycle which makes the amp draw 2.1 amps per hour. It has the same compressor as the Nova Kool refers we install in the Tugs. Knock on fiberglass, I have not had a Nova Kool fail since we switched to them. (2 years). Outstanding product.
