R-25, toilet gets no water

Newby on the boat.. We have water running to sink and cockpit hose as well as shower. But can't seem to get the pumping water to come in the toilet when manually pumping the handle. It gurgles like it wants too. We sent a small bowl of water down the toilet and watched it arrive in the holding tank. What are we missing? Our first tug is very comfortable. We love it. A lot to learn though. :roll:

We don't have the R25 but I'll take a stab at this. If it's the same as our R27 your toilet water comes from the water your boat is sitting in and not your water tank. If your R25 is the same then I'd guess the thru hull lever may not be open, therefore not letting water come into the system. Our R27 engine sea strainer services the water for the engine, head and transom wash down hose.....so if you're in the water and the engine is flowing water and your R25 is configured the same as our R27 then this is not your problem. Check to see if you have a separate sea strainer for the head and find the on/off lever to make sure it is in the on position. If you do and it is closed that would be the problem. If you do and it is open it could be blocked from under the boat by leaves or plastic and needs to be cleaned out. Please report back to us and tell us what resolved the problem.

The toilet on the 25 uses raw water.Your strainer for the head is the same as the the engine strainer. Open thru hull for engine and try pumping toilet. If still no luck then see if there is strainer where a white hose comes off of and make sure it the thru hull for that sea strainer is open. Hope this helps

Had same problem and found that a piece or part number nine had been put in improperly by factory I presume.Look at the assembly on the toilet,identify # 9 part and turn it around.It is confusing looking at the parts list but that solved problem that existed from the time I took delivery in feb 2010.This is a good toilet,just part installed improperly I presume.

You may need to prime your heads pump. I do not have the heads instruction manual with me; however, if I recall correctly you disconnect the tube at back of toilet which leads over to the pump, fill it with water reconnect to toilet and try pumping with dry flush/flush in up position. On occasion the pump will lose a prime and need to be kick started.

If you are running at crusing speed when you attempt to flush the head the manual water pump in the head is not strong enough to compete with the raw water demands the engine is placing on the raw water strainer.

Flushing with fresh water is always an option. With our coastal water in North Carolina, fresh water flushing seems to control odor better.

You did not specify if your Ranger is new or what year it was built. If you have a 2008 model year, like ours, the head has its OWN thru hull fitting that is forward of the thru hull valve used by by engine. You know that those gate valves are open when the handles are straight up and down.

If after following all the good advice above you're still having problems, you may want to install a one way valve in that white supply line.
It's a common item readily available in most marine stores.

Hello Jhicks,

Your toilet has two flush settings located on the right hand side of the toilet. There is a picture below the lever to indicate if you want a wet flush or a dry flush. My guess would be that your setting is on dry flush. All you need to do is move the lever over to wet flush, as long as your engine sea cock is open you should be able to get water flowing to the toilet.
