I was just checking the coolant level on my 2014 R-27 Volvo D3-200 engine. The level is somewhat below the neck of the tank.

Can anyone tell me what the correct level is, when viewed thru the access hole in the deck?

The second question is: Is there supposed to be a rubber gasket in the coolant cap?

My cap appears to be just plastic, which seats on the plastic neck of the tank. The catchment area around the cap is wet and there is a trail of liquid on the starboard stringer.

I am currently cruising in BC and I might be able to get a new cap if that is the problem.

Thanks for any help,

Hello. The coolant in the engine should be full to the top. The Volvo has a level sensor on it and if it is low enough it will tell you. Not sure about the cap but almost positive there is no rubber gaskets or orings that attach to them.

Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. I will fill accordingly.

Larry,

If you continue to need to add coolant you might want to check where the engine coolant is distributed to the cabin heater and hot water heater. There are other posts on the site that discuss similar problems. On my boat on the port side below the engine oil dip stick there is a 90 degree elbow that feeds the cabin heater which has a very slow coolant drip. I need to put a couple of ounces in every 50 hours or so. I have tried to tighten the connection, however I have not found wrenches that I can get into this tight space.
