Maureen and I placed the order for the new hardtop for Karma today. With that we will no longer be in need of the bimini that we purchased for Karma. We would like to offer this for sale at a price of $1,750.00 including installation. The Frame is one inch Stainless Steel with a black sunbrella bimini cover. Installation will be done by King Canvas.

We also have the original wheel from Karma for sale at a price of $100.00 plus shipping. We replaced the original with a old style spoke wheel. This wheel will fit on the R-21 and the R-25 also.

Anyone interested in either, please send me a PM.

I had considered adding the same wheel to my R25. However, it looked like it might not work on the R25 as spokes would either rub or be too close to teak near the side controls. Are the helm measurments similiar on R29 (with door closed and side controls slid forward)? I assume the side controls slide forward with door closed.

I really would like a spoke wheel

Bill,
The wheel would in fact fit on the R-25. Be sure that you order the reducer for the wheel though. The hub is a 1/2 inch I believe and the wheel was one inch.

We like the look and feel of the spoked wheel. And believe it or not, in tight qtrs it is easier to handle the boat with the spoked wheel. I will be back on Karma on Friday and will measure the wheel for you if you would like.

Thanks for the info especially about hte need for an adapter. Back in my Navy days all small boats had these type wheels so I understand how they are much better. I just had thought there would be inadequant clearance. What source did you use for your new spoked wheel? I have seen the wheel listed in either Defender or Hamiliton Marine but did not notice an adapter for shaft.

Bill,
The wheel came from Fisheries Supply. The adapter came from Ranger. I am not sure where they got it from.

I met with Steve and Andy from Boaters Discount Center at the Monroe plant this morning. They mocked up the hardtop for Karma and it looked great! (well as great as a cardboard hardtop can look) It will be completed and installed by the end of March, first of April. Along with constructing the hard top, they are also constructing the rack to support our inflatable on top of the hard top. The top is load rated at 400# so the Delfin Inflatable that we are going to purchase will be good coming in at a mere 66#.

For anyone interested, we still have the bimini on Karma that we are looking to sell.

Other than your R29 has anyone looked at a similiar hardtop for a R-25? I was on Ron Cowan's R-21 a couple of years back & he had a hardtop on his boat. That made a hugh improvement on the boat. I would be interested in price for a R25.

I would like to do the inside passage during summer of 2011 after I retire. I would be trailoring boat to PNW and could get it done before my trip if I could arrange it with a company in the area that already had the design worked out.

Bill,
I would assume the cost on the R-25 would be close to the same as the R-29, $6,900.00. This is for a custom made top completed including lights, stainless grab rails around, and matched to your color specifications. The inflatable storage system on the top will be additional on mine. They have not quoted me a price on that as of yet.

The biggest cost is making a "one time" mold. If there were enough people interested, they would make a reusable mold and that would reduce the cost.

We would be interested in the price of the hardtop for the R-25. We do not have the bimini and would like to know of the options. Please let us know. thanks

How about a bunch of you R25 owners jumping in and getting the price down before I need this mod in 2011.

Also, I had not considered this as a location for a dingy but that is another excellent use.

One word of caution on considering a hardtop for the R25. I have a canvas cover on mine. When it is up I find that when returning to the aft cockpit from a trip to the pointy end, it is safer for me to unzip the front piece of canvas so that I can get a good grip on the stainless hand rails when moving from the side of the boat into cockpit. You will also have to duck down a couple of feet to get your head under the canvas if this piece is not unzipped. As you get older -- and less mobile -- this could be a concern. I slipped one day -- it had a nice swim. On the R-29 there is the sliding door at the helm station, so this manouver is not the only option. I find that my canvas cover goes up and down quite frequently depending on weather and who is on board. I'm sure that if you want to put a hard cover on the R-25 you can resolve these matters if they are important to you.

Boaters Discount will put "gull wing" hatches on either or both sides for you if this is a concern. It will just cost you a another couple of "boat units". (according to Mac, a boat unit is $500.00) Remember, it is just our children's inheritance that we are all spending...... They don't need the money anyways...... at least that is what we tell our daughter!
