Our 2025 R-29 has a Therford Temco head. The first few days, it was great…. But then, the ‘before’ fill button wouldn’t work. Fortunately, the ‘after’ flush button always worked, except that it quit adding water during the macerating process… so we were adding water from the sink. Initially, service was unhelpful, insisting that it worked whenever they would go try it, but then they concluded the sensors were the problem, so they removed them from the side of the holding tank, and ordered new ones. In the meantime, the toilet does indeed add water with both the before and after buttons…. Although without sensors, we have to keep pulling up the mattress in order to check the holding tank level.
So, since we’ve been keeping an eye on the holding tank levels… we’ve discovered that even after a complete pumpout, there is still an inch or so left in the tank. We understood that the pumpout works on suction but we were expecting the outlet to be on the side. It is not, it’s on the top. (Hubby describes it as a straw). We have an RV, so we’re familiar with the notion of emptying the black tank.. but with an RV, you make use of gravity rather than the ‘straw-sucking’ process.
We understand the Orange Filter discussions and fresh water tank discussions to avoid the odor coming from the outside vent when you flush… but seeing that the bottom inch remains after a pumpout is making us say UGH. We’ve talked about adding a bunch of water to the tank after each pumpout and doing a second pumpout, in an effort to dilute the sludge at the bottom. But this seems like a waste of time, a waste of money, a waste of water… and can’t be what was intended.
Is our ‘straw’ too short, or crimped or something? Are we doing something wrong? Or is this truly how the toilet is supposed to work?

I too have a 2025 29. We always do a triple pump out. We complete the initial pump, then add water about 4-5 gallons and repeat until we see fairly clear outflow.
We did this on our 2018 R27 and kept the tank fairly clean. I don’t see it as wasting time or water. Also, we leave about 2 gallons in the tank after adding the tank solution to prevent any solidification.

The marina we typically use for our pump outs always offers to rinse the tank at least once but will often do it up to three times without any questions. Before we store it for the winter is gets a good wash (complete fill) including with dawn dish soap and remains very clean and does not smell in the garage while being stored. Our RV has a tank wash system and we use it at every dump if a water source is available. I would not question or worry about rinsing the tank in your boat.
