In need of sourcing one. My original is stamped Taiwan at the base. I have searched for a year and cannot locate. Surely there is a Chandlery Supply house that has these. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Andrew. Thank you for your response. If you go to My Gallery, there are pics of the red mast head that the anchor light is mounted to. I also have a wine cork affixed on the VHF as a mast silencer between the antennae and mast head. Yes, it is resin and probably fiberglass. Mine has Taiwan stamped at the base so was likely sourced there in the Pacific NW when Ranger was building the R-21 trawler masts from some Chandlery Supply house. It looks like these were probably sourced white, the paint is the same high quality and clear coated red as on the brow and hull of my tug. I actually need to get my hands on two. Also, what paint was that red? It's a remarkable paint but time to redo. Trying to avoid customizing a mold and building mast heads from scratch. Thank you, Brendan.

I wish I had better news but I did confirm that those were built by Ranger and the molds no longer exist. This one will require a rebuild and a new part. Wish I could help on this one but we cannot.

Just curious.... Why do you need another, plus extra copies?
 
Andrew, thank you. This part is stamped, "Taiwan" right on the top and is an original on a vintage 2003 R-21 mast, so it indicates, in this example, that it was sourced. Taiwan had some prized boat builders and suppliers in the day. Tommy Chen who built 76+, Lord Nelson Victory Tugs (LNVT's) is an excellent example of Taiwanese boat building craftsmanship. Tommy is still alive and the LNVT's bring him over every year for their annual Rendezvous. Slackwater, in response to your inquiry, my recent purchase and project came without a mast. From what I have observed, the early mast components were Dwyer Mast Co components. My exceptions have been the mast heads. What is interesting, is that every screw on the current 1998 R-21 project are all original Phillips drive. Conversely, a 2003 R-21 example is all Robertson (square) drive, or what Florida boat builders used to call, "Hatteras screws" when that builder recognized it's superior characteristics over Phillips. I have a 2003 that has Robertson drives in every component, right down to the two screws that attaches the original series 25, Aqua-Signal, anchor light to the Taiwan molded mast head referenced above. If you have an R-21 Classic and we cross paths, I will shamelessly ask to examine your boat forensically. With Andrew's contribution regarding molds that are no longer in Ranger's possession, I'm assuming on the earliest boats, Ranger was molding their own mast heads and then was able to source them to Taiwan? Will look for those early hull numbers and examine those prized masts for clues.
 
Best of luck with your search/fabrication. Perhaps someone here will lend you theirs too make a mold.

My 21 was a 2005...when I had to remove the red mast top to fix a wire....I had to drill out pop-rivets!
 
Another idea...

My mast head on my R21 had, over the years with previous owners, so many holes drilled in it that it looked like a sieve.

I took the dimensions to a friend of mine with a lathe and he made me a nice new one out of wood. The whole process took about fifteen minutes. Two good coats of marine paint to match the mast, one hole drilled for the mast light wires, and a couple of wood screws dipped in silicone for fasteners and the job was done.
