I was carrying out my first oil change on my used 2005 R21 I just purchased (3YM30 motor). The motor has 180 hours on it. The current oil filter is about the size of a normal automobile filter and is part #124550-3510.
Earlier, I had I purchased two spare filters, part number 119305-35151, as recommended by the marina guy who seemed to know his stuff, in contemplation of the oil change. This part number also coincides with the part number set out in the Factory motor parts list for the R21, although I note the list specifies this is for 2008 and newer R21's. These new filters are much much smaller than the current one, likely less than 1/2 the size.
Please advise if I can and should use these new smaller ones. Was the larger one just for breaking in the motor? I would assume the larger filter would be a better bet.
I ended up leaving the old filter on, so will just change it again, a little earlier than the recommended time for my next change.
Thanks for your help.
