Greetings,
I am planning a trip to Oak bluffs Martha's Vineyard this summer. The plan is to trailer up to Falmouth Cape Cod and get underway there. I will plan accordingly, check the weather and currents before I depart. Have any R21 EC's make the trip that have any advice. Greatly appreciated.

I've been to MV couple of times with my 25'. The West Chop is always rough with the currents and ferry boats going through the area. It is certainly doable just be prepared. Oak Bluffs is the party town on MV, on Summer weekends the basin will be full of boats. There is a mandatory rafting of 4 boats to a mooring ball, so you could have drunks climbing over your boat at 1AM, shouldn't be too bad during the week. A beautiful anchorage is Lake Tashmoo on the West side of the island, water and pump out is available. Bit of a walk into town where you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. Elizabeth Islands are beautiful and close by, Cuttyhunk should not be missed, Cuttyhunk Fishing Club for breakfast is everyone's favorite. Sparse supplies on the island, fuel is available.

Thanks for the Heads up. I plan on getting underway early to avoid the afternoon uptick in the channel. I reserved a slip, so no mooring. I have heard about the busy summers at Oak Bluffs. I'm still learning to maneuver in tight spots, I did Pt. Judith to Block Island last year. It was great going out, scary coming back in. Thats an understatement, I'm hoping the shorter trip from Falmouth to MV, and the channel currents wont be as bad. I constantly check the weather, its a small boat.

If you haven't cruised Narragansett Bay in RI put it on your list. Perfect cruising area for your boat. If you do let me know and I can give you all the local info.

I sail over to MV and Nantucket each year with our R25.
If the weather cooperates it is about a 2.5 hour trip from the Bass River at the Yarmouth-Dennis town lines. Following seas are a little tricky going from the island. Your trip will be less distance as you will have MV in sight the whole way across. Oak Bluffs is a good experience but, do not plan your trip when POTUS is in town. That is usually in August , the same time as Illumination weekend.
Do not your age, but if you are an aged one, it is a $1 ride each way. Edgartown is a nice visit and there is a good cheese shop where you can pick up snacks to accompany cocktail time.
Nantucket is a good take but other than the square transportation could limit getting around.
Be glad to give you some additional info if you want to send a pm.
Believe we sailed through your area when we navigated the Erie Canal.

Gentlemen,
thank you for the advise, I looked at the lake at MV, looks like a great day trip. Once at Oak bluffs I plan on a few day trips and you have given me a few ideas. I mainly boat the Hudson River but I do venture out to nearby islands off the coast. I appreciate your thoughts.

Juan
