R21 EC oil pressure 3YM30

A few days ago I ran my R21 EC Yanmar 3YM30 at 2800 rpms for more than an hour and then went to 3200 rpms for 20 minutes at which point the oil pressure warning light and sounder activated. Turned off the engine and in a few minutes restarted and proceeded to the dock at a slower speed with no warning signal. Later confirmed that the dipstick showed oil was slightly below full level. Next day ran engine for two hours at 2800 rpms and no warning signals. Any thoughts what might be happening? Does the oil pressure warning system measure only low oil pressure or does it indicate high pressure also?

In the past there have been massage threads on this forum discussing whether owners of Yanmar engines could add oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges on their boats. Was this issue ever definativley decided. Has anyone successfullly added these gauges. Certainly would be nice to watch the gauges to see what is going on rather than wait to be alerted that you are already in trouble.

Oil level should be measured with a cool engine after it has sat long enough for all the oil to run back to the sump. If it was low at that point I'd add oil to the proper level and see if it happens again. I believe the oil alarm sounds only for low pressure.
what type of oil do you use? and when was it last changed?
check the connection at the sender and the panel, it could just be a bit of corrosion.

We have a Garmin 750s Chart plotter/fish finder in our R21ec which I understand you can connect a Garmin GMI 10 Digital Instrument display. It appears that you can connect this to many different sensors to obtain a multitude of readings from your boat.

Most importantly from my view is engine temperature, oil pressure and fuel flow. But also available is volts, RPM, Trim, hours and other categories.

I am still investigating to process to install, but I think it can be done in stages because you need a sensor for each of the required inputs. You need a NMEA 2000 network, this is an international standard so I am not sure if you even need to have "Garmin" equipment connected but can use any brand that conforms to the standard.

The sky is the limit to what you can do, it only costs money. 😱

You might also want to check your impeller. If one of the fins broke off and got temporarily lodged somwhere in the cooling system, you would get a similar result.

This can be done fairly easily.

You add a nipple and T to whatever sender and put the original in one outlet on the T and the new sending unit in the other.
Believe the pipe size is 3/8.. I did this one a Yanmar 3GM I had on another boat. It worked well.
