I have a 2015 Ranger Tug R21 EC with a Volvo Penta d1-30 Engine with a keyless on/off starting Panel.
When push the button to turn the engine on, nothing happens, no buzzer no display.
The batteries are charged and dc power is supplied to all instrumentation.

Try jiggling your throttle lever to be sure it’s in neutral.

I have a Yanmar, but the throttle jiggle trick works for me (usually after I tear my hair out).

Hey - I hate to tell you the news but chances are unless it is something simple you have the dreaded MDI box faliure that these motors are wellknown for. I had this happen to my 2015 R21 same thing and it was the MDI box on the side of the engine. There is a known issue with these boxes and Volvo has done nothing really about them. You probably have to bite the cost and buy a new one for around $900. I had the same issue. Spent a seek tracing all the wires and then replaced the MDI box all well. Feel free to PM me and we can connect before you buy an MDI. There are dealers out there selling old ones that have the same problem and you can tell shich ones they are by the lot number. the newer ones have the issues fixed by Volvo - see this article too

Volvo sent me a new MDI box at no charge a couple years ago when I discovered the recall replacement engine did not come with the updated box; worth a call to them.

You may also want to look up emergency start switches on this forum. Bob

Will let you override/bypass the MID box!

The tach should light up and you get the beep without it being in neutral or at least it does on my 2014. It will not start however unless it’s in neutral. There is a 15 amp fuel in the top of the MDI box that’s worth checking but a good chance that the box is shot if you get nothing when you push the on/off button.

I have read that sometimes the switch itself fails but not sure how you would test to rule that out.

Good luck and update us on what you find.

I came here to echo what others have already said. If it is a failed MDI box, I recommend you work with your local volvo penta dealer and escalate to volvo penta corporate if necessary to get them to cover the cost. My MDI box was replaced in 2021 with part number 23195776 W1938 and has been working fine since (knock on wood).
