R21 Volvo Penta Data Link to Chartplotter

I have a 2014 Ranger 21. The Garmin Chart plotter has the ability to display the engine parameters but that feature is not installed on the boat. Is that something that can be added and I would be interested to know if anyone has added this on their Ranger tugs? I would like to be able to monitor that information. Also if anyone has done that is, it fairly easy to do or should I be looking at a Marine mechanic to do the install?
 
I made this modification on our 2015 R21EC and my Garmin Chartplotter now displays engine speed and engine temperature.
