I have noticed a significant amount of water on the floor just inside the door every time a wash the cockpit area or experience driving rain. Before I request a warranty service, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.
FYI. The door gaskets are good and the door closes tight against the jamb.

We own a 2018 R-23 and have not had any door leaks. Is the bimini section over the door attached?
Karl

Yes the Bimini is attached and in perfect condition. I assumed I was spraying something in an upward direction when washing the boat however the driving rain made me question that theory.

I suspect the door frame will need to removed and resealed.

I don’t know how to explain the driving rain, but the floor of the cockpit is not sealed from water intrusion along the bottom of the cabin walls.. If you look in your galley cabinet, lift the floor boards and look at where the cabin comes down, you will see daylight. If your cockpit isn’t draining well (clean the drains), the water could be backing up in a driving rain.

Mine has been that way since day one. So I never use pressure to wash the door or cabin wall... always mist or fine spray. Never really thought about it much, but I suppose it should seal better.

I just chalk it up to the fact that there are places on our Tugs that we need to be careful whilst washing. For instance: While washing the side sliding windows, if I spray the window from aft forward, water comes in heartily between the sliding and fixed panes. Not much that can be done about that, so I just adjust how I spray.

If the cabin door should be 100% sealed, then I need to address! :?

I have a 2016 R23 Hull number 13 (lucky 13 I hope) and yes I have the same issue. It only leaks when I wash the cockpit, never in rain. I just take a paper towel and clean up the teaspoon of water that gets in. I never considered it an issue since it doesn't leak in rain.

Hi all,

As some have already pointed out, these doors are not intended to take direct high pressure water such as from a pressure washer or nozzle on at full blast. Using a judicious spray will still clean things nicely but will keep the water from working its way past the door seal. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf

We had the same issue with our 2019 R23. The leak seemed to happen with heavy rains and higher winds. There wasn’t a large amount of water—maybe 2-3 fl oz at most each time. We did a water test with our dock hose (using low water pressure). We ran water from bottom to top, over the face of the door and the frame. The water entered through the key hole. We made a small Sunbrella cover for the keyhole rosette and secured it to the door with 2 snaps and 2 SNADs. We haven’t had the problem since, and we have had some strong storms move through.

Thanks very much for all the responses. I agree that high pressure washing is a bad idea and I always opt for a light wash down technique. This is why I was surprised by the water intrusion. I will be much more careful when spraying the cockpit floor as I think it might be splashing up and in between the two sections. I might even squeeze a foam gasket in that area and see if it helps.
Thanks everyone!
