R23 Air Conditioner question?

Hi, New member here!

My wife and I are considering purchasing a R23. I have a question concerning the effectiveness of the air conditioner option . We live in SW Oregon, which tends to be very hot in the summertime (90+degrees). How effective is the AC at that temperature level? By the way, we already own a 2200 watt Honda generator.

We own a 2021 r23 as well. The air conditioner/ heater works great! Although the boat is small, the vent near the v berth sink helps to keep that area cool. I also like to stretch my season as long as possible, so the heat comes in very handy. I recommend it highly.

We live in Florida. Summer temps easily exceed 95 degrees F with a heat index of 100-105 degrees F. Although it may take an hour or two to fully cool down the cabin and the V-berth the AC does a great job. We use a Honda 2200 generator when on the hook.

We're Arizona trailer boaters, routinely experiencing temperatures in the 100's. In the hottest times (110+), the AC struggles to keep up. But generally, it is effective and comfortable.

The best way to keep the boat cool is to not let the boat heat up. We use reflective covers on all windows, doors skylights, and hatches. We fabricated them using flexible and inexpensive "bubble reflective material" for each window; easy to use and stow. When at anchor/pier side, we're dark as a dungeon but cool as a cucumber inside!

Good advice az9133bm. Using the reflective hatch covers helps tremendously. We have all the hatches fitted with these and they work!

Life in Texas would be impossible without AC. I cut reflective hatch covers for all overhead hatches from a silver windshield reflector from an auto parts store. The snap in bug screens hold them against the hatch. Without them we’d cook like food left in a solar oven. We use the curtains on the side windows to block the sun as needed. Our AC keeps us quite comfy in our R27.
