Good Morning All,
Since we purchased and R23 with a stern drive diesel, I got to thinking about the design parameters for the R23.
As an aircraft modification engineer, weight and CG are big parameters.
Considering that:
1) the stern drive weighs about 800 pounds and has a CG a foot or two inboard of the transom and below the floor
2) The OB has a has a CG about 2 and a half feet behind the transom and above the floor,
I would be interested in how Fluid Motion designed the R23 for both options.
The difference in weight and CG location is fairly large. IMHO, it should have a rather significant impact on how the boat operates. Especially given the boat is only 23 feet long. The outboard's CG is about 3.5 or 4 feet different than the stern drive's CG (and 300 pounds less). That is about 15% of boat length movement in the CG.
Now, with the 25 and 27 (that were OB only from the start), I can see how the design could take accommodate the OBs CG and Location.
Just a thought
