I have a Kisae 2000 watt inverter. Factory installed. I didn’t see a need to upgrade it. There is no transfer switch. Also note, I do not have an inverter charger. I have 2 battery chargers and 1 inverter. We turn the inverter on when we need it, and leave it off most of the time.cruz-in":3uxad92j said:Hi Martin,
On the other thread, I saw your awesome wiring diagram.
One item I noted was your 3K inverter. If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions:
1) Did you consider one with a built in transfer switch?
2) Noticing it is 3K, and Ranger installs a 2K one. Were you able to verify the dowstream Ranger installed wiring could support the extra current?
Thanks,
Dan
2000 watts at 12 volts would consume 166 amps. My system is basically built for 150 amp service. I can spike above that for short bursts as the LFP battery and the inverter both support bursts. But with the 120 volt loads on my boat, 150 amp service is plenty.
The most I usually will pull is less than 120 amps off 12 volt dc.
I upgraded to lithium to get hot water for taking showers onboard without needing shorepower. I upgraded solar so that I wouldn’t need shorepower when I’m out cruising.
All my lithium documentation can be found here. I have electrical schematics for the factory NW edition and LE edition (with factory Dakota LFP), as well as my design with Lithionics. All posted publicly. Also have several videos on our YouTube channel where I go over the LFP conversion I did.
The conversion to LFP was by far the most intense and complicated and most technical upgrade I’ve done to Channel Surfing. I have many weeks worth of evenings spent designing, drawing it out, researching components, playing Tetris to make it all fit. I made a lot of mistakes on paper. I wanted safe, reliable, and in compliance with ABYC standards. It’s really cool and great to have now that it’s installed. But it was a lot of work to get here.
