I'm looking for advice on securing an R23 to a mooring ball for occasional overnight stays. The R23 has chocks port and starboard but only a modest size central cleat. Most resources recommend two lines but with only one cleat, it's difficult to secure both ends of two lines.

Also, when anchoring, I'm reluctant to have the load pull directly on the windlass. Do people use snubbers on a rode? If so what would that look like? Is an alternative to bring the rode back to the central cleat and back beside the windlass to the roller?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

run a line from one bow cleat (port) down through the ball and back up to the bow cleat (starboard) on the other side.

If it's only for one or two nights you can probably get away with just one line run, the way the Gavin stated. The line may rub back and forth on the mooring ball ring, but for a short time, chaffing shouldn't be a problem.
