Here's a new one for me. Prepared to go out on Cormorant yesterday afternoon.

Checked behind the boat and engine, and all was clear. Lowered engine and engine started perfect, no issues. Warmed up and readied boat for departure. Finished checklist and prepared to release lines. Bow thruster on and tested.

Moved throttle to clutch astern. Nothing happened. Retied up the boat. Trimmed up engine and the propeller appears to move when throttle placed in astern. Shut down - not much else I can do for troubleshooting. I've called for a mechanic but it's the holidays so hopefully assistance soon.

Any ideas? Is there a propeller disconnect? I am not aware that we have hit anything in the water and the engine is stowed in the up position and very little of the engine makes contact with the water. No evidence that anything struck our boat or engine that I can see, I check on the boat frequently. I run and flush the engine regularly. I am out of ideas. If anyone has thoughts I'd appreciate it.

Happy New Year to all.

Maybe you inadvertently touched the little button on the side below the throttle handle? That would allow the motor to rev up in neutral?
If you haven’t used that button it is somewhat in-noticeable

UPDATE: Mechanic came out and low and behold, Ernie - you are correct. I'm not sure how it happened but somehow during the startup I must have made contact with the button. Engine started up and ran great. Vessel wen immediately astern in clutch astern position. Took Cormorant out with the mechanic and ran up and down a few times without any issues.

All I can say is whew. Money well spent to get some assurity and confidence.

Cheers to all and Happy New Year. Come up to the San Juan Islands! See you on the water.
