Good Morning.

We plan to sell our 2017 R23D (170 Hp diesel) . It is in great shape. Always stored insude.

I plan to ask $5k less than whatever the lowest priced on Boat Trader is.

In today's climate, I would appreciate your thoughts on how long it might take to sell?

A few months... A year,?

I appreciate your thoughts and inputs.

Dan

How fast something sells depends on marketing, time of year, and price. I had a boss once that would tell vendors "The closer to free you get, the better your odds of closing a sale.". Typically, selling in the fall takes longer as the buyer then will pay to store the boat they just bought for months, until next years season, before they can even use it. Spring and summer potentially can sell faster as the buyer wants the boat now, while the weather is great.

Of course, I'm talking specifically about Puget Sound. Selling a boat in Florida, California, will have different metrics that determine speed of sale.

I've seen some boats take a long long time to sell (over a year), as the broker didn't put much effort into it.
If you price it too low, folks may think "what's wrong with it?". If you price it too high, folks will keep scrolling. If you don't list it, it'll never sell.
The boat you have is somewhat unique (an R23 with a diesel engine). That may be sought after, or it may be quickly passed over.

In general, the Ranger Tugs appear to hold their value over time and generally sell fairly quickly (within a few months).

Thanks for the reply!

The boat has an interesting heritage. It was purchased by a lumber millionaire to use for their vacation to Maine. Each summer, the Maine RT dealer would assure the boat was in the lake and ready for his use. At the end of the 6 weeks, the dealer would service the boat and place it back in indoor storage. Next summer the process would repeat. We purchased it about 2 years ago, We use it out of a climate controlled boatel. They remove it, place it in the water, we use it, when we are done, it is returned to climate controlled storage. The boat has no bottom paint and, as a result of always being inside, no sun damage. Has about 100 hours on the diesel. \

Probably a case of the right buyer at the right time and the right price, but we traded in our 2024 R25-OB and the dealer said they got interest as soon as they posted it, had someone look at it over the next couple days, and eventually buy it. I didn't think they did a great job with the listing (pics, features, upgrades) but everything probably thinks their boat is special. I know I did 🙂
