I am looking to buy a Ranger 25 or 29. Is the Pilot Seat comfortable? How does it handle on a long cruise? Are the seats good quality? I worry about the countertop.

Thanks --

Personally, I find the seat comfortable enough (R25), but it's not high enough from my perspective to get good forward visibility, and I'm fairly tall. This is addressed simply by placing a boat cushion on the seat. But then, a seat on a boat to me is just that. I've spent much of my life on the water sitting on hard cockpit benches with no cushions at all, so by comparison the R25 is quite luxurious. I wasn't looking for a La-Z-Boy.

I own the R-25 and find the helm seat pretty comfortable. There has been no marring of the galley counter top and the drink holders are convenient. Depending on your height it may be a little of a challenge getting in and out of it but the step works well. The difficult seat I find is the first mate seat when in the forward facing position. The difficult part is getting out of it. If you don't step out of it forward but instead try to slide out the side you will probably cut your pants on the framing pieces. Most of my cruising is inland water in fairly smooth waters so I cant say how the seat rides in weather yet.

My spouse found the metal drink holders next to the helm seat very inconvenient and in the way (and he is skinny, so it's not that...). I pulled out the fridge to get to the nuts holding the drink holder in place and removed it. I currently have a piece of nonskid placemat type material covering the holes while I find a more creative solution. Did not want to mess with actual fiberglass repair yet, as that would look worse than the holes!

I also removed the drink holder from inside the "glove box" as it was not convenient to have the glove box door open with a drink there, and mounted it to the far starboard side at the top of the helm station. We are both happy with this change.

Tim,
I have both boats here in stock and would be pleased to take you through them and even go for a ride. I feel the seats are very comfortable, but I will let you decide for yourself. There has been a factory modification to both boats, setting the seat up higher than original factory specs.

How much higher were they raised? I have no problem with the position of the seat and have found it very comfortable. I have made many runs in the 6 hour range and one in the eight hour range with an hour break at a restaurant for lunch.

Toward late June I will begin to free up my calendar. I am going to the Trawler Fest in Greenport, Long Island for a couple of days...will you be there?
