Where have owners of R25 OB placed there vinyl name graphics ?? Typically they would go onto the transom but I’ve not seen that. Additionally has any R25OB owners had there boats documented thru the US Coast Guard?

On documented outboard-powered recreational boats, most owners put the vessel name and hailing port together on the topsides on either side of the stern. Then no name is necessary at the bow.

Only commercial boats are *required* to have the hailing port on the stern. Recreational boat owners are just copying them. The only requirement for recreational owners is that name and hailing port must be marked together somewhere clearly visible.

BoatUS has a good guide to vessel labeling requirements for documented recreational vessels:

But here is the USCG official page:

This is how my R27/OB graphics were applied. Hope this helps you.

I also had my R27/OB Documented with USCG. Was no problem. The process was quite straight forward. I believe there's a $27/yr renewal fee levied each year, and they inform you about this via e-Mail.

Jim, There are minimum volume requirements for a boat to be federally documented but I believe that your 25 will meet those because our 2015 R25SC (inboard) met the requirements. Length x beam x hull side height is my understanding of what they use. Swim step is not counted. I was advised that if you make an error on the application the Coast Guard rejects it and does not refund your $. Thus, to avoid delays and rejection we elected to utilize a service (Great Lakes Documentation) that does the application process for us. Our cost to do our R29S was $400. Feel free to text or give me a call if you want their contact information.

Channel Surfing is also documented.

We put the name and hailing port on the stern. We put just the name on the port and stbd sides, under the helm seat window and passenger window. It took the USCG 4 months from when we took delivery of the boat to get us our document numbers. Then we had to get a plaque made up that says "No. 123456789", which has to be mounted inside the boat in such a way that if it's removed, it'll be obvious it was removed. Ours is glued to the hull inside the center cockpit storage area, directly to the hull there (can't be attached to a removable bulkhead). WA state doesn't issue WN numbers when a boat is documented, but does require that we display the annual registration stickers on the port and stbd side of the boat. We stuck them to the bow windows.

It is my understanding that per the regs it is not a requirement that the name be clearly visible at all times. So if you have dinghy or if the motor blocks the name when up you are still within the rules.

For my USCG Documented 2019 R29 CB I have my boat's name under both forward port and starboard cabin windows, and have kept the bow/hull clean of any graphics. 🙂

We're having the name applied in the center (the recessed part) of the transom on our R-25 OB. It was a bit of a struggle deciding as there isn't a ton of flat real estate on the back of the new 25. After batting around many options it seemed like the best option. Should be getting applied in the next couple weeks. Would be happy to let you know how it turns out. We also put the name under the cockpit windows.

I didn't realize the R25 had cockpit windows, unless I'm misunderstanding. 🙂

A cockpit is a name for the location of controls of a vessel! While traditionally an open well in the deck of a boat outside any deckhouse or cabin, in modern boats they may refer to an enclosed area.
So your both correct! Just remember when applying your graphics (sticky side down) Bob

Hahah, "cockpit" is not what a I meant to say, but I'll take being right any day!

I’ve seen name graphics on a R25OB placed in the center indentation of the transom but I’m wanting to ask if any R25OB owners have placed there name graphic to the port side of the transom? Is there enough room or more room in the center? We’re in the final stretch before we take delivery in late November and I’m trying to take care of some final details, appreciate your answers.

Jim: IMO the best person to enquire about names and home hailing port graphic placements for USCG Documented boats is...

Margaux at.... Margaux has done all my RT graphics and she knows the rules and where graphics can be placed on all the RT models, be they Documented with USCG or not.
