R25 SC Port Side Listing

Hello -

I notice recently that our boat is listing on the port side towards the stern when tied off at our slip.

We have our factory dinghy on the swim step, and our 6 HP Outboard (60 pounds) on the back rail right next to the battery locker.

I’m wondering if the Dinghy and the outboard in conjunction with the battery locker are causing the imbalance or alternatively, is it possible that water is under the port locker?

There isn’t any water or moisture in the port locker or rotting of wood - bone dry.

Is it as simple as adding weight to my starboard side or is there something else I’m not considering?

Yup. Move the outboard or move the batteries or add weight to the starboard side. Of course, adding more weight comes with its own problems. I chose to add the weight to the starboard compartment under the V-berth to help even out the fore/aft balance as well. Some folks have moved some of the batteries to the Starboard locker. Boats are all about compromise!

Second what Curt said. Move as much weight out of the port cockpit and transom as possible. Move it forward or to starboard where possible. We put a lot of weight (spare anchor and rode, etc.) up into the v-berth compartments. In my 2009 R-25 Classic all our tanks were centerline so the didn’t impact list to either side. But having a full waste tank in ours did add weight to the stern. When we bought our boat the original owner had moved the house bank to the starboard cockpit locker. And added two additional house batteries there as well.
The net result of all this was to lower the weight on the stern and balance the boat port to starboard.
