R25 Windlass clicks but does not work

My 2008 R25 Lewmar worked slowly the last few feet when lifting the anchor then stopped moving. The exterior and interior switches both make clicking sounds when pressed but no movement of the windlass. The chain is not jammed. The breaker did not pop. There are other similar posts for R23s with humming motors corrected with shutting off power or due to corrosion inside the windlass. Any other ideas?

I have a R23 and the windless did not work made the same sounds as yours. Can you rotate with the hand lever. If not the motor is frozen. Replace the whole winch it’s much easier. The seals on the motor cover are not very good. I put electrical tape around my new insulation. Give me a call if you need any additional help. Jerry 231-633-3141

Lots of corrosion inside the windlass and motor needs replacing (Lewmar Pro-Series 1000). Is it better to replace the motor or the whole windlass? If replacing the whole windlass, replace with the same model or a different one? I would want one with the same footprint. /Users/David/Desktop/Lewmar.jpg

Replacement motor costs about $180 and gears $280. New unit $1700.
