R25 YANMAR 110 - ENGINE FUEL FILTER CHANGE

I need some help on changing the fuel filter on the engine.

Step 1 is to remove the protective cover after loosening the strap bolt.

I can't drop my cover down far enough to get it off the filter. It runs into the engine.

I'd appreciate comments on this please.

I'm making the move from the $90/hour mechanic to myself. What a process!!

Good morning,
I removed the sensor wire and removed the filter and cover together. I agree there is no way to get the cover off in place! I tried and there is simply no way. i really did not have any trouble taking them off together and reinstalling the same way.

Here's what the Yanmar guy did on my 110.
Remove the two large bolts on top of the fuel filter that attach it to the engine.
Now you can tilt the entire assembly in order to remove the metal cover.
Remove the metal cover and throw it in the trash.
Bolt the fuel filter assembly back onto the engine.

Here's what you need to do next.
Get the metal cover out of the trash.
Take it home and put it with the rest of your collection of useless boat stuff.
Do this just in case you learn later, removing the thing was a mistake.

So far, removing the thing has caused me no problems.

Tug O' War

The timing of your post couldn't be better. I couldn't get enough purchase to spin off the filter and cover, so I looked for Plan "B". This involves thinking about it a lot before I do something stupid. You have confirmed what I decided to do -- and will probably do tomorrow. I hadn't thought about tossing out the cover. The manual says the purpose of the cover is "to protect the water alarm switch". I'll probably be attacking the filter tomorrow.

I hit the Staples "Easy" button today following your instructions. Thank you very much. I have safely stored the filter cover in a secret spot. I did cover the sensor wires in a heat resistant tape to give it the illusion of some protection.
