R25C 2009 Not starting with Key

I had a water pump failure and was towed in for replacement on a Cummin Model MR504.MOO Type MR504L
Mercruiser/Cummins engine 2009
After the replacement the key start just does nothing. The tech jumped the engine and it works fine.
They installed a Button start that I have been using for about about 2 weeks no problems.
Any suggestions on the problem with the Key start. The tech checked the smart craft computer and key spool and said it was sending a signal but the starter was not getting the signal.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Many times an issue has something to do with what you did last. I am not sure what a water pump replacement would have to do with starting other than a wire inadvertently hit and disconnected. Assuming a coincidence with the water pump maybe the switch just failed. I would say that the "start button" is simply a bypass of the start position on the key switch and that would confirm my thoughts regarding the key switch. I am surprised that the mechanic wouldn't have considered that.

Thanks for the advice. The mechanic did consider what you suggested he said he tested the output from the switch and said there was voltage output but it was not getting to the starter motor solenoid. He looked for loose wires and did not find any. So he figures computer replacement and pressure sensor replacement. We have ordered parts but back ordered for a month. I am hoping some little reset button to solve the over revs from tow.
But I will wait for new parts and keep on keeping on.
