When I leave the boat for an extended period of time, hooked up to shore power, should I switch the House Power to “off” and all switches on the 12v and 110v panels to “off?” I currently left the House Switch to “on” and several switches on the panel to “on” (I can’t recall exactly which ones). I won’t be back to my boat for several weeks.

The slide deck from the As The Prop Turns seminar on power management will give the many of the basics. You can download it here. There's also a spreadsheet to help you manage power on your boat.

You can watch the recorded seminar here. It's based on a weekend cruise: leaving the dock, at the anchorage, and returning to the dock. All step-by-step.

Cheers,

Bruce

That will depend on what electric components are fed by your particular House switch and whether you want them ON or not. For instance, my standard practice when leaving the boat on Shore Power is to keep the refrigerator (DC panel) ON and the Battery Charger (AC panel) ON and nothing else. If it is particularly hot and humid outside for days/nights at a time I might also keep the AC ON in Dehumidify mode (AC panel). Otherwise, everything else is OFF if it is not being used. Note that there is a 24 hour panel that does run other devices like the CO monitor that will always be ON unless you pull their fuses. HTH, GF

Thank you Bruce and HTF. I’ve downloaded the power point deck and made note of the shore power best practices you mention HTF. Very helpful. Chris
