Hi there,

Armed with new belts, a replacement alternator I’m going to try replace the alternator in my 2015 R27 D3 200.

With the wood access panel off on the bottom step I can see a black box ( maybe 6”x10”x2”) with copper tubing running in and out of it. This will have to be removed and will be easy to do as it has threaded connections.

My question is: what is it and what precautions am I going to have to take? Is it something that will have to be primed when I reconnect it. I’m thinking it may be fuel for the Webasto.

What happened? Not charging?

Don’t worry about it. I have removed that box every year to replace the impeller on our 2014 R27. I assume someone has done the same on your boat unless they have managed to replace the impeller from the engine room. If not, plan on replacing the impeller during this project!) After disconnecting and reconnecting the Webasto has nearly always started right up. If not, just shut it off and start it up again and repeat this process until it does. Mine has always eventually primed itself.

I too just relived the pump too. I did put rubber nipples on all the ends and hoses to keep them clean and from leaking.

I just found it right working space but totally workable - IMHO.

Good luck.

Charging but not enough. I get a low voltage warning every time I start it up. With the boat under way it starts off at around 12.2 volts and then slowly drops. After 4-5 hours it’s down to 11.2 V. Below 11 V the warning comes up every couple minutes.

Thanks Curt.

I’ll be changing the impeller at the same time. The current impeller has at least 500 hours on it. Can I ask what you use for lubrication on the vanes?

Cheers - Brad

Thanks Dougxn,

I’ll do the same. I’m not looking forward to it but it needs to be done.

Next job will be installing a galvanic isolator.

I only use the glycerin product that comes with the Volvo replacement impeller. Volvo makes it pretty clear not to use anything else. Hopefully your impeller is OK!
