I’ve never liked the location of the VHF radio on our 2013 R-27. It was hard to see the screen in the original location behind the steering wheel. The original Garmin 210 VHF failed last year and I replaced it with a Standard Horizon GX-2400 AIS because I wanted an AIS receiver.
I removed the Yanmar engine gauge and Garmin autopilot controller and mounted both along with the VHF in a piece of black 1/4” starboard. I had to cut out a section of the wood dash with the old instrument holes. The new panel is held in place with 2 screws into the wood dash.
Although it looks a bit crowded, everything is now visible and easily reached. See my next post for what I did to cover the old VHF hole.

Nicely done. Thanks for sharing. Should be a good resource for those seeking to relocate the VHF com from its awful original position on these vintage R27s.

I totally agree with the radio location on all of that series of boat. Here is another solution. Added a remote microphone that is supported by the standard unit which allows basic functions to be viewed on the small screen with better access. Perhaps not as good a solution but less work. Just money, not so much labor

Nice work. Love to see what comes next

I've also relocated my stock radio, but to the top of the dash. Top-left was the original position.
Bracket was make from a $6 bit of aluminum strap from the hardware store and a couple 1/2" m6 thread bolts.
