Looking at new R27 (gas) LE with the air conditioning. The Ranger website says “inverter” powered and that the genset is optional.
Salesman we are working with says the AC will only work on shore power or a generator...and that it will not work on the inverter.
??Anybody have a good answer or additional info??
Thanks

Rangers have more house batteries than many much larger boats. Yet, the power demand of AC is too much for the healthy-sized battery bank.

Understanding the limits of power production, storage, and consumption can be a steep learning curve.

I confess I am still learning.

But this video will go a long way to help you along the path. Kudos to Ranger / Cutwater for producing it.

The AC as delivered will not work with the inverter, the inverter does not have power to handle the startup current of the AC compressor. But, you can get a kit to wire into the compressor motor to "soft start" the motor and the inverter can then handle the startup load of the compressor. You would be pushing the limits of the inverter on startup, but others have done the mod and it works. Not sure how long you can run the AC off of the batteries as the AC unit has a comparitivly high current draw.
I tried to order my 27OB with AC, without a generator, and I was told no they came as a package deal.

I would be surprised you would need a kit for the new model. They previously mentioned looking at a different a/c unit that can work off the inverter. The Ranger Tug site specifically mentions the LE model now comes with inverter powered air conditioning. I think the remaining issue is how long you can run it. You certainly could not run it overnight while anchored.
