Recently purchased a 2013 R27 and will be mooring in Elliot Bay Marina for the winter. I was thinking of putting in a Golden Rod dehumidifer in the engine compartment just to be safe if the temperature dropped in between short trips that I plan on taking during the winter months. The boat is currently getting the hull painted and I can't remember if there are any 120v outlets in the stern to connect the dehumidifer. The Golden Rod has the standard 120v plug and if the R27 doesn't have the outlets in the stern I am curious as to how others are powering small engine dehumidifers/heaters like the Golden Rod. Thanks!

I can't help you with the 120V outlet question. On our three Tugs R-25, R-29, R-31 we've had 12V outlets on the last two.

But, we've been in Elliott Bay Marina (M-20) for going on 8 years and have never had any de-humidifying or heating elements in any of our engine compartments. We run an Air Dryer from West Marine in the galley all winter, a pair of Space Dryers in the berth and cave year around, and a DeLonghi Oil-filled Radiator heater under the dinette when the temperatures are forecast below 40 degrees.

We keep the door to the head propped open when we're not on the boat. Never had a moisture or freezing problem, even in the few years we've had snow pile up on the boat.

Thanks, I might be over doing it with the engine heater/dehumidifier option. Wasn't sure what is a "nice to have" and what was a "requirement". I have the air dryer from west marine and portable heater for the inside. Might just stick with those. I am in /will be in K97. Hope to see you around the dock.Thank you for your comments.

I run a bilge heater in the winter that requires an AC connection. Ideally, I would wire an outlet into the cockpit somewhere. But I've taken a path of lesser resistance. There is a small round opening between the engine well and the starboard side storage compartment. I run the plug end of the cord through there to get it into the storage compartment. I then thread it forward to the head, around and past the water heater and shower sump. Inside the head, you can pull out the piece of starboard that forms the floor inside the cabinet. Then reach through the open floor towards the water heater and shower sump, find the plug end of the cord, pull it through, and plug it in to the outlet in the head area. Not elegant, but it works great.
