Anyone know if the windlass on a 2014 R27 is Lewmar Pros Series 700 or 1000? I need to replace my anchor line. The line I inherited from the previous owner (who presumably got it from the factory) is 3/4 inch and the “Lewmar specialist” at Westmarine said that is to large for either windlass. Any reason I’m overlooking why the factory would put an oversized line on this set up? The model type is not readily apparent on the windlass or the documentation. Thanks for any advice.

I believe the 700 takes 1/4" G3 and the 1000 takes 5/16" G3. They may have been fitted with alternate wildcats, but in either case, the wildcat part (stamped on the inside of mine) would tell you the size.

Are you referring to the rope rode or chain? We have an R-31 which was supplied by the factory with 5/8” 3-strand nylon rope rode so I doubt that the factory would have been the one to fit your boat with 3/4” line. With respect to chain, I originally thought ours was 3/8” because the only “calipers” I had on board were open end wrenches - 3/8” was “go” and 5/16” was “no-go.” However, I later figured out that we truly do have 5/16” chain (Lewmar Pro-Series 1000 windlass). I’m pretty sure the extra thickness is due to the galvanizing.

We have a 2013 R25 and our windlas is the Lewmar Pro Series 1000. There should be a plate attached to the windlass to identify the model, like this:

Flip the chain off the gypsy and look for a number stamped into the inside of the sideplate. Ours is RC0864. This is the critical number to tell you what rode your gypsy can handle:

Now go to your Lewmar manual, or find the manual online for your model.

In the manual there should be a table listing all the specs, including all the details for which rope and chain fits the gypsy according to the stamped number you found earlier:

From this table, using the RC0864 information, we chose to use the 5/8" 8-plait nylon rope with 5/16" G4 chain.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Ron! This is exactly what I was looking for.

BTW I grew up in Skagway just across the border from you. Left around 2001. My Dad still spends half the year on Tagish Lake. Good chance we are coming to Whitehorse in November for my daughters ski race camp at Mt. Sima. Maybe we can get a cup of coffee.

Your welcome, Tim. Glad to help.
If you do come to Whitehorse, give us a shout. Barb and I would be happy to meet up and have you over for coffee and swap stories.
We've always gone to Skagway several times a year for camping or day trips, and now we can tow the boat there. We put our boat in at Skagway in June and spent some time down Lynn Canal and Glacier Bay. It was a great trip!
Hope to see you around!
Ron
