Anyone ever changed one out, or had it changed out. Couple of hundred in parts, is it an hour job, or a nightmare?

Assuming you have the 6gal or 11gal isotemp spa water heater? I don't know where they locate it on your boat, but it's under the galley floor under the main fridge in my C30. Mine was a tenuous exercise, and a lot of curse words were uttered. Properly draining it is the hardest part, other than the contortionist activities needed to get the actual element out. It can be done, but it's not painless.

If you have an RT27-OB, getting the hot water tank out is easy. Probably like 15 minutes. How long to take apart the hot water heater and replace the internal parts I've no idea. But the hot water heater in the starboard lazarette is held down with 2 straps. Remove the straps, empty the tank (so it's lighter). It slides aft and can easily be picked up and set into the cockpit for easy access to work on.

If you're talking about an R27 LE classic, I've no idea where that hot water heater is located, and being a diesel inboard it would leverage engine heating, which the outboards don't have.
