Good Morning:

Wife and I will be retiring next year and are in the process of building a new house. In a few weeks, we will be meeting with the architect and want to include a separate building able to store an R29 Sedan (planning to buy in 2018).

Appreciate info from those of you that have done this already regarding dimensions of the R29 on a trailer, electrical hookups, and other items which will allow me to store and work on the boat. Pictures of your storage building would be great if willing to share.

Thank you for the assistance!!

We built a custom garage for our R27. Dimensions will be different for your boat but I have a few suggestions based on our experience.

1) We added a platform at the height of the swim step with stairs on both sides to make access to the boat while in the garage easier. This worked out great. I highly recommend it if you have the space.

2) we included 30 power connection, a hose bib for filling fresh water , flushing tanks, and engine cooling, and a connection to our septic system for the grey water and black water pump out. Even if you do not intend to use the facilities while in the garage you likely will want to flush and fill the systems.

3) we added an exhaust hose connection from the boat exhaust to outside the building. Useful for doing maintenance items that need the engine running warmed up.

4) we did not include a linear floor drain under the boat but I would recommend one. When running the boat a fair amount of water comes out the prop shaft seal.

There are pictures of all this items in my photo album. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. It is a big investment so you want to get it right.

Appreciate the information!

Nice pics and good suggestions Red Ravin, thanks.

Bosn Mate, I'm going through the same building phase with my 29. What did you decide as to size. And what type building, metal, pole barn, or conventional stick construction?

Bucket List:

Still in the process of determining which way to go.

I was able to communicate with a Dealer who measured an R29 for me. Total length of the trailer = 39'8". Width = 10'. Height on trailer with mast folded = 13'2". Based on these measurements, the structure would need to be approximately 44' long x 14' wide x 15' high.

Cost is a big factor in a building this size. I am considering other options including renting storage space.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn't recommend 14 foot wide for several reasons. That only leaves you 2 feet to get by the boat on each side assuming you are talking interior dimensions here. If you are talking exterior dimensions you will lose foot for walls and have only 1.5 feet on each side work with, a tight squeeze and no room to work or put up a ladder. Also, since the door will need to be a 12ft wide door 14 feet doesn't leave enough wall length on each side for shear strength without engineering and reinforcement (more $$). With a 12 foot wide door I think the building needs to be 16 feet wide to avoid special construction techniques in those corners. At least in our neck of the woods.

Our garage for our R27 is 40L x 16h x 16w (exterior dimensions) with a 14h x 12w door. If it were 44L x 16h x 16w I think I could put an R 29 in there comfortably. I can't imagine doing it in a 14 foot wide space though.
