We set out for our first trip of the season this past weekend. Went to flush the toilet and the 25 amp fuse blew. I replaced the fuse and it blew immediately after attempting to flush. I emptied the holding tank last Fall and we had heaters in the cabin all winter. Any thought son why the fuse would blow?
Thanks,
Bart

The pump is seized up. When the motor tries to spin it pulls lots of current but can’t turn. Then the fuse blows. What brand of electric head is it? Likely answer is a new pump if you can’t free up this one.

I agree with Texas the pump is probably seized. I am having an issue with my pump as well. When I took the pump apart I found one of the bearings seized and the cup in which it is housed was now out of shape so now my motor was able to wobble and strike the sides causing an awful noise. I am looking for a new pump motor.
My pump motor is Thetford part number 36180. I am in Canada and I can’t find a dealer who can get the part from Thetford.
All dealers close to me are RV Thetford dealers and apparently Thetford won’t sell them marine parts. If yours is the same pump please pass me the dealer in the states that you purchase your part from
Thanks,
Warren

Hi Bart
Was the pump the problem? I’m having the same issue.
Thanks.

I also had the same issue with my Tecma toilet 2 days ago on my 2020 R-29 CB. Blew two 25 amp fuses trying the flush function to ensure all was in order for planned travel this spring. Thought I'd try one more fuse and lo and behold the flush function worked in normal fashion. I was planning to inspect the toilet water pump which I believe is in the forward section of the starboard lazarette?

Likely the lack of utilizing the flush function over the winter months allowed the pump to momentarily seize up in some fashion. I did have rv/marine antifreeze in the toilet water line and boat heated.

Thanks Marc

I’ll try a few more fuses! Haven’t used it it a couple months

I had this exact issue. blew fuses after working the last time I was at the boat.

I decided to replace the whole bottom unit of the toilet as they are made of plastic and some reports are the plastic can warp over time and put stress on the motor. The install wasnt too bad - took about 4 hours as a first timer trying to not make a mess.

Where is the fuse located we have the same issue 2011 R29.

I talked to Thetford customer service today (very helpful). They confirmed its likely either a bad pump or something wrapped around the pump causing it to seize. In my 2021 the fuse is behind the bathroom mirror. Pump on the way $306 from Defender Marine.

On the cut 28 behind the mirror.

Ok my toilet will flush but the tank doesn’t add any water. 2011 R29. Any suggestions? Thanks

This happened to me once. The through hull valve was still closed!

Pro tip: if you over tighten the J bolt the porcelain will break. Unrelated, if anyone needs a brand new pump let me know. I “opted” for a new toilet.

Experiencing blown fuses again on my 2020 R-29 CB with the Tecma EasyFit toilet when trying to operate the flush button. I also tried a 30 amp fuse as recommend by Thetford support. The replacement unit for the motor pump macerator in the toilet all appears to be on back order...identified as part #'s (raw part number 36180 / 06307) and 36750. I do have the part on order from Marine Sanitation & Supply, however, no delivery date in sight. (https://marinesan.com/discharge-pump-hose/)

My next step may be to disassemble the toilet and motor pump to see if there is an object lodged in the pump or if the bearings failed....anyone with experience disassembling the pump and restoring its operation?
