R29 Trailer

I am having difficulty getting specs for a trailer for my R29. I have found a Canadian manufacturer who can supply a suitable trailer but we cannot get info on the size and position of the bunks or whether the boat rests on the keel or not. I would be grateful if a R29 owner who has a trailer could look at their trailer get these measurements and the any other that will be useful.

I've just purchased a trailer that was previously situated under a Ranger 29, and snapped up a ton of photos of it empty.

I need to modify mine to fit another boat, but I believe several folks here use this trailer under their Rangers. It's a FloatOn Pioneer aluminum, triple axle. Trailer weight is 1,820 lbs., GVWR is 15,240, net capacity is 13,420.

I've not picked up the trailer yet, won't have it in hand for another week or so. Once I have it back home, I can get you any measurements you wish.

I'm also curious to know if an R29 would rest on it's keel on the trailer above - as that's how I'll need to configure the trailer for my incoming boat. Does anyone here know if the keel of an R29 would simply ride on the yellow plastic pieces shown on all the cross members in the pics above, or would the hull be completely supported by the bunks?

Prior to purchasing this one, I also called a couple of King trailer dealers down here in WA. My guess is, given their proximity to Ranger they've also fit trailers to the R29 - and I was quoted about $9,400 for one of their triples with similar capacity. Didn't get the details on the brakes they offer, though.

I do not believe that the keel rests on the crossmembers. My 27 was supported entirely by the bunks. I did have to add a keel roller under the bow to keep the keel from striking the front crossmember when the trailer being loaded in a steep ramp and the rear of the trailer was much lower than the water level.

We have an EZ Loader for our R-29. There are two main bunks about 16 feet long with two smaller (8 ft. +/-). Be careful with the load. On the scales, Ladybug, Too and trailer come in at 13,290 lbs. with water, fuel and gear. We had to change to Load Range E tires (it is a triple axle) as the front axle tires take a beating. One blow out on a straight run was enough. We did not run over any curbs, ever! The EZ Loader is well built and gets the job done.

I agree, to be clear, no weight is supported by the keel roller I installed. It is merely there to not allow the top corner of the cross member to dig into the fiberglass of the keel during loading. It will happen under the right and unavoidable conditions and put a nasty gash there....do not ask me how I know. :cry:

Chris you were very fortunate in finding a used Float-on trailer I had a smaller one made by the same company from my R25, it was excellent. All the photos will be helpful. I did not think that the R29 would rest on its keel so this conformation is appreciated. The trailer I am looking at is rated for 12500 pounds so should be adequate. The only other information I need now is the height of and distance between the bunks. The only reason I have to ask for this help was because I also found Ranger not to give their usual help with is request.

I have a trailer made by Tuff Trailers works great .. I had to adjust bunks. I found easiest was to go to a travel lift and had them suspend the boat over the trailer so I could get it just right . I have approx 1200 lbs tongue weight which seems to work out great for me.

I am thinking that a 12,500 pound GVW is marginal for an R-29. ymmv

I am pleased to be able to terminate this thread as I have purchased Gary Means' Loadmaster trailer that was built in Port Clinton specifically for a R29. It is substantially heavier that the one i was looking at in Ontario. It towed like a dream the 1000 miles back to Northern Ontario. Thanks everyone for your advise.
