I found recently that my house fresh water pump was not working. The water level indicator came on, as did the water pressure light at the 12v panel. There was no fuse issue and Steve Phillips at Canoe Cove Mfg reported that there was power to the pump. He said the fastest and most economical solution was to replace the pump, which he did and $400 later all is working fine. My question is how common is it for a pump (Johnson factory installed) to fail after only two and a half seasons and 200hrs engine use?. We don't take 15 minute showers or use excessive water.
Is it worth getting the original pump looked at and keep as a spare? Thanks Jim Grier

Yup, fresh water pumps were a topic of conversation in the 09/10 time frame.
So, I guess Murphy got ya.
I did disassemble my pump and saw where it could be overhauled, but at the time, time was more expensive for me than money. ymmv sar bni

Two and a half years seems a bit quick for a pump to fail. I wouldn't carry a spare unless you are traveling to some distant place where parts are difficult to get, like Alaska or Canada. I would however see what the issue was with the old pump. Not that I doubt your mechanic, but sometimes the pressure switch gets stuck and hence the pump thinks there is enough pressure and won't turn on. If it is a simple fix I would fix it and then keep the old one as a spare.

We installed a 2gl pressure tank to reduce pump cycling in the hopes of extending pump life and reducing amp hours. Electric pump power requirements spike at start-up. Obviously starting and stopping many times per minute takes its toll mechanically and on the batteries. Works great. Very smooth consistent water pressure without the pulsing of the pump.
