Hi Guys,

I am considering adding a Starlink antenna aft of the solar panel. I need to route a networking cable under the solar panel and have it end up in one of the lazarettes.

As I can see, the solar panel wires go from under the solar panel into the cockpit cover on the port side and then to the starboard lazarette to the charge controller.

Do the wires route vertically along the starboard side of the cabin door to the port lazarette or do they go to the control panel in the cabin?

Thanks.

Patrick

I can't speak for certain because my boat is slightly different, but my understanding is that the positive and negative power cables from the solar panel go to the solar controller in the lazarette. The controller in the cabin uses an RJ type cable (12 or something?) that looks like a telephone cable.

Hi Patrick!

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I’ve wondered the same thing. Not sure how different it might be on the CB model, like yours, versus the sedan, like mine. If no one has an answer for you, you might try dropping some of the lighting on the underside of the cockpit cover to see if you can spy the solar panel wires and where they are routed. If you figure it out, let us all know!

I am also curious how you plan to mount the Startlink antenna as we are thinking of this as well. Will you disable to motors in the antenna?

We have a R31 CB and I have been thinking about going off the mast somehow.

Keep us informed.

Hi Gini.

I started my investigation today. I'll report back.

Hi Keith,

I probably will be getting the flat high performance antenna which is approved for in motion use. It has no motors.

I'm thinking of mounting it aft of the solar panel on a piece of Starboard secured with the Weaver wench bolts. I think there will be less motion of the antenna while the boat pitches and rolls, and it will be easier to route the network cable down to the port lazarette, where I will mount a 300 watt inverter and router.
