With the standard mounts, my port-side Scotty downrigger’s brake, when the rig was deployed perpendicularly, was hitting the staple rail making it unusable. When angled, the brake was accessible but the cable then came too close to the stern for my liking.
So I created a short extension to move the mount back. I used a 6x12 HDPE 1/2” plastic sheet, some stainless steel bolts, and an additional Scotty pad. A nice clean installation.
It works perfectly, has handled the torque from dropping a 12lb lead ball into the water, and does not interfere with he flip out seat.
