Radar came up on chart plotter as not available. Worked with it and it then disappeared from the screen. Any suggestions on how to get this operational?

The first thing I would heck is the connection to the radar unit itself. The plug on ours comes loose every once in a while and gives your symptoms when it does. If that’s it, easy fix. I now check that plug every time I raise the mast after trailering.

I had it happen once when I updated the software. I called Garmin and they sent me the update loaded on a micro card which solved the problem.

On my 2011 R 27 the chart plotter failed to start the radar swapped plugs in the back of the unit from the depth sounder from the radar. Then I had no depth sounder. Garmin no longer serviced that chart plotter so I ended up purchasing another Garmin chart plotter . Apparently the plugs in the back of the unit I had failed.

Check power cable and ethernet connections at dome. Do you hear the unit power up? if not it is a power issue. If it does power up and ethernet looks good you can try running a cable temporarily from dome to back of chartplotter. If still no joy take dome off and there is a short ethernet going from outside connection to board internally. Check that out. After that it could be the chartplotter and a new one may be the thing to do.

Hi Shilo,

As others have already mentioned, make sure all of your connections are good, and if so then do the software update. Go to https://www.garmin.com/en-US/support/software/marine/ and follow the process at the bottom of the page where it says "Download updates manually". This should help resolve the issue.

Cheers,

Ralf
